Peter Aeschbacher
Assistant Professor
Peter Aeschbacher is an Assistant Professor holding a joint appointment in the Departments of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at Penn State. Trained as an architect, urban planner and graphic designer, he has extensive national and international experience in design and community development. Mr. Aeschbacher has worked with arts-based non-profit organizations, undertaken numerous community revitalization and affordable housing projects, and been an activist and advocate for social & environmental justice issues.
He has also worked closely in and with underserved communities and marginal populations, including community-based projects involving at-risk youth in Los Angeles. These projects include the design and construction of community gardens, local parks and environmental education initiatives. His scholarly work focuses on public space issues, design and implementation, and digital fabrication. Mr. Aeschbacher is the Director of Design at the Hamer Center for Community Design. He is a former Frederick P. Rose Architectural Fellow, a program which supports young architects working in the field of community development. Mr. Aeschbacher was with the Los Angeles Community Design Center from 1998-2004. He received a Master of Architecture and Master of Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles.
