Rebuilding After Katrina
Deconstruction Workshop

The Hamer Center organized and conducted a building deconstruction workshop in East Biloxi and Ocean Springs, MS. The project provided hands-on experience for participants who came from around the country and also from the local area. 

Workshop partners and sponsors included US EPA Region IV, Mississippi Gulf Coast Design Studio, New Orleans HfH ReStore, and The Green Project in New Orleans. The workshop was featured on ABC news regional affiliate WLOX. To see the news story, please visit: www.wlox.com.

Lifecycle Building Challenge
Application Deadline April 2007

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Competition sponsored by U.S. EPA, American Institute
of Architects, Building Material Reuse Association, and
West Coast Green.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and its partners are seeking lifecycle designs from professionals and students. Lifecycle buildng is the design of building naterials, components, information systems, and management practices that anticipate future use. Lifecycle design facilitates a building's eventual disassembly or adaptation (instead of demolition) for maximum material recovery.

Competition submissions should address one of the following categories:
- Project: an entire building
- Component: a single bulding assembly or connector
- Service: a tool, system, practice, or method
