       Building Community-based Partnerships:
       Monument Hill

"This working design provides us with the framework necessary to search for the financing for the project, but I would stress that this is a long-term endeavor. Projects meant to serve generations take time to complete."

-- Dr. Claudia Limbert,
CEO, Penn Sate Dubois Campus.

A team of faculty and students conducted a two-day design workshop at the Penn State DuBois campus to create a community vision for Monument Hill, a 10-acre site that will include outdoor classrooms, picnic groves, hiking trails, and environmental restoration.

Select design elements include a viewing path that leads up to a historic monument; a grassy, hilltop meadow featuring natural stone markers and a viewing pavillion; and an outdoor ampitheater, bult into the natural slop of the hillside to be used as a classroom setting and for community performances.

With the preliminary design in place, the campus' next step is to find a donor who wishes to contribute to the project.
