      Town & Gown:
A Study of the Relationship of State College
        to the University Park Campus

In the fall of 2001, fifth-year landscape architecture students under the direction of Professor George Dickie worked with the Downtown State College Partnership (DSCP) to develop concepts for a masterplan that explores the relationship between the Borough of State College and the University Park Campus. The student analysis and design proposals addressed several themes including:

     - Traffic and pedestrian systems,
     - Campus and town edges,
     - Integration of land uses,
     - Residential and commercial development,
     - Future needs and growth, and
     - Public open space versus campus open space.

The DSCP has used the design ideas to integrate into the overall vision and strategic plan for downtown. In addition to final reports and drawings, the students created a website for the project that can be found at the following address (link to this) www.larch.psu.edu/larch451/.
